Queer Tango

Queer Tango Geneva Banner.

Tango Queer is an innovative initiative that invites everyone to dance Tango beyond heteronormative frameworks organized by Dialogai, Geneva. Here, the traditional roles of the leader and follower in Tango are not bound by gender norms. The only rule in this dance is to respect others, their gender, and sexual orientation.

Argentinian Tango, known for its sensuality, intricate footwork, and warm ‘abrazo’ (embrace in Spanish), is a globally popular couple’s dance. Originating among European immigrants in Buenos Aires in the early 20th century, it blends local and imported rhythms. Historically a male-female partner dance with fixed roles, Tango evolved in the 1990s with the OpenRole and Queer movements, promoting role flexibility regardless of gender and creating inclusive spaces for queer individuals.

Join Tango Queer to explore this beautiful dance in an open, inclusive setting. Whether you’re new to Tango or an experienced dancer, the classes and Milongas provide a unique opportunity to enjoy and embrace this art form.
